Free image editing with GIMP

1 year, 5 months ago

I am not a graphic artist. I have however been trying to make my website look better lately. One of the ways I've done that is by creating the 6 small badges that line the left side of the page now. I created these using GIMP. I must say that compared to the GIMP that I used years ago, which I found frustrating and lacking in many basic ways, the current version of GIMP is a very capable image editor. Today, I read GrimThing's take on it, Gimp vs. Photoshop, which affirms my layman's thoughts.

Go download yourself a copy of GIMP and quit stealing Photoshop!

Update: It turns out that one of GrimThing's complaints is already solved in the development version of GIMP: It now has CMYK support. Just a little more patience, Mr. McClure :)

I downloaded 2.3.13, the latest development version I think, and CMYK colorspaces are now included by default. Sonofa...

I've got a few photos and I'm making up some spot work to take in with me Monday and see how it separates out. If the CMYK works the way it's supposed to work, a small newspaper could run the majority of their graphics department with the Gimp and Scribus.
