Study Gives Us A New Perspective On The Powerful
Walking a mile in another person's shoes may be the best way to understand the emotions, perceptions, and motivations of an individual; however, in a recent study appearing in the December 2006 issue of Psychological Science, it is reported that those in power are often unable to take such a journey.
The inability of the powerful to understand the not-powerful is something that I've discussed with several people lately. This article just gives me some science to back up my claim that merely by being in power, people tend to lose whatever skills or perspective made them a good candidate to be in power in the first place. I'd be interested to see a follow-up study that pre-screened people to see if they _wanted_ to be in power and then did the same experiment. Then science could back up my theory that the best people to have in power are exactly those who do not want to be there.

"Remember, brick walls let us show our dedication. They are there to separate us from the people who don't really want to achieve their dreams. Don't bail. The best of the gold's at the bottom of barrels of crap." --Randy Pausch
